Don’t Lose Your Chance to Keep Your Healthy Smile

tooth-colored_fillings_2 | Dr. Jennifer Perkins, DDS

Picture this. You set aside some money to get tickets to the Iron Bowl. When your tickets arrive, you put them in a place where you know they’ll be safe until you are ready to use them.

Then, on the day of the game, you … stay at home? (You don’t try to sell the tickets, so you don’t get your money back, either.)

Sounds crazy, right?

Why would you spend money on something and then not get the thing you paid for?

Yet, many people do this every year with their dental insurance. At the office of Jennifer Perkins, DDS, we hate to think of how many problems could be prevented if only someone had come in for a routine cleaning and exam.

It’s also why we hope you will visit us soon. You still have time before the end of the year to make an appointment at our Huntsville, AL dental office. Call 256-801-0002 to set up your dental checkup.

If you don’t have dental insurance, keep reading. We are happy to help you, too!

The Importance of Preventive Care

That old saying about an ounce of prevention being worth a pound of cure is just as true today as it when it was first coined.

In general dentistry, our focus is on stopping problems such as tooth decay and gum infected before they start. As an alternative, we would rather discover those issues before they cause tooth infections, periodontal disease, and tooth loss.

We can’t do that if you don’t come in for regular cleanings and exams. Even if your brush twice daily and floss daily like you should, there’s still a chance that bad bacteria will do some harm. There’s a reason more than 90 percent of Americans develop cavities and nearly half of all adults over 30 have some form of gum disease.

Don’t wait until you have a dental emergency to get help. By being a frequent guest at our practice, you can avoid many emergencies situations.

Insurance Benefits Are Good … While They Last

If you receive dental coverage as a benefit where you work, then you can see that a little something is taken out of each paycheck for this.

Most plans (please note: your plan may vary) are set up to encourage patients to get preventive services. This generally includes covering much or even all the costs of one or two professional cleanings and exams per year.

If you get to the end of the year but don’t get those cleanings, then it’s like having those football tickets but skipping the game.

Those checkups are a lot less expensive than, say, replacing a missing tooth or teeth or getting a gum disease treatment. Many dental plans (again, yours may differ) only cover a fraction of these costs.

All that is to say that if you do visit us regularly, it’s better both for your smile and for your wallet. If you have dental insurance but you never go to the dentist, then you aren’t getting what you’re paying for. Please keep in mind that members of our team can help you file claims with your insurance copy.

Other Options for Covering Your Dental Care

Many people do not have dental coverage. Maybe you’re retired or working for a small business that can’t afford to offer a dental plan at this time. Maybe you’re self-employed.

Whatever the reason, we want you to know that your oral health is just as important to us. It’s why we offer a variety of payment options so your oral health can fit in your budget.

In addition to cash, check, and major credit cards, we also can help you set up financing for bigger procedures through CareCredit.

At the same time, you should get the kind of preventive care we described above. Those regular checkups are invaluable when it comes to your oral health.

For that reason, we have created our own in-house membership club for our patients. As a member, you will pay a low monthly fee. Routine cleanings and exams are included as part of your membership. You also receive discounts on other services.

As a member, you can get the preventive care that can help avoid the complex problems that call for more expensive treatment down the road.

A Better Dental Experience

If you haven’t been to a dental office in a while, you might be surprised by what you’ll find at our office in Huntsville, AL. We aren’t a cold, sterile place. We have created a warm and caring environment for our patients to keep their mouths as healthy as they can be.

While you are waiting, feel free to enjoy a cup of coffee from our Keurig. When you take a seat in one of our chairs, we’ll gladly let you borrow a pillow and a blanket. We want you to feel comfortable, which includes feeling warm and cozy during your visit with us.

We also have televisions in each of our care rooms. Watching one of your favorite shows can provide the perfect distraction from your cleaning or other treatment.

Before you leave, you’re welcome to enjoy some complimentary goodies from our “smile bar.” This includes lip balm, dental floss, and more.

Dr. Perkins has been a dentist for more than 20 years. When she opened her own practice, she wanted to provide the highest-quality care that she could for every person who came to our doors.

It’s why we partner with top dental labs to make our dental restorations. It’s why we take time to build relationships and get to know our patients as individuals. It’s why we’ve incorporated the latest technology to make your care as pain-free and as effective as possible.

It’s also why we offer dental sedation to help patients who may feel anxious about oral care.
