Improve Your Smile With Cosmetic Dental Treatments

tooth-colored_fillings_3 | Dr. Jennifer Perkins, DDS

Your smile is probably the first thing that gets noticed about you, especially in situations like job interviews or first dates. Despite this, though, many people choose to improve other aspects of their appearance while neglecting their smile.

Do you color your hair or wear contact lenses? Or pay a monthly fee to work out at the gym? If so, what’s keeping you from making the same kind of investment in your smile?

If you’ve got several things you’d like to change about your smile, you may not know where to start. It might help to make a list of the things about your smile you’d like to improve. Using the list as a starting point, you can explore possible fixes for each of your imperfections.

Consult with a Cosmetic Dentist

Cosmetic dentist Dr. Jennifer Perkins can help! She’s a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, which means she’s passed written and oral tests, had work evaluated by her dental peers, and pursues advanced training in cosmetic dentistry procedures.

You can meet with Dr. Perkins for a cosmetic dentistry consultation in our Huntsville, AL dentist office. Call Jennifer Perkins, DDS at 256-801-0002 to schedule your appointment.

A Personalized Cosmetic Dental Treatment Plan

We can create a personalized cosmetic dental treatment plan for you to help you attain your smile goals in a way that makes the most of your time and money. For instance, if you’re interested in getting dental veneers to cover chips in your teeth and also want to whiten your teeth, we may suggest whitening first and then matching veneers to your whiter and brighter shade.

We Offer Lots of Cosmetic Dental Treatments

You may be surprised at all the ways we can transform your smile at Jennifer Perkins, DDS! We’ve highlighted some of our cosmetic dental treatments below. If you have any questions about any of them, just give us a call.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is a simple way to make a subtle but significant improvement to your smile. You have two choices: teeth whitening treatments we apply for you while you relax in our Huntsville, AL dentist office or a professional-strength treatment that you can use at home.

Either way, you’ll get better results with our treatments from respected brand KöR than with those you can buy at the drugstore. Some of our patients like to first get a treatment at our office and then perform periodic treatments at home to maintain their shiny new smile!

Short-Term Orthodontics

If you’ve been reluctant to straighten your teeth because you didn’t want an unsightly mouthful of metal, we offer two short-term orthodontics options. Both of them are far more discreet than traditional metal braces.

Your two choices are:

  • Invisalign. This well-known brand uses a series of clear plastic aligners to gently shift your teeth into place. According to Invisalign, the average treatment time is about 12 months, less than for traditional metal braces. Many patients like that they can remove their aligners to eat and drink or for special occasions.
  • Six Month Smiles. Six Month Smiles are more like traditional braces but use clear brackets and tooth-colored wires. The average treatment time is just six months. The time frame is short because the system focuses on straightening the “social six” teeth that are revealed when you smile.

Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are versatile cosmetic dental treatments because they can be used to solve a variety of cosmetic issues. The thin tooth-colored “shells” cover the entire front surface of your teeth. Because of this, they can hide:

  • Worn-down teeth
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Chips
  • Minor cracks
  • Small gaps between teeth
  • Stained or discolored teeth

Dental veneers are most often used on teeth in the front of your mouth. They can help fortify your teeth against damage. They are not a good choice, though, for broken teeth or teeth with large fillings. They’re also not a good choice for people who grind their teeth.

Tooth Bonding

Dr. Perkins can apply tooth-colored resin directly to your teeth to cover imperfections like cracks, stains, and chips, or to change the look of misshapen teeth. Tooth bonding is one of the least expensive cosmetic dental treatments, and it’s reversible.

Teeth Contouring

Another option for misshapen teeth is teeth contouring. Using a laser, we can modify the shape of your teeth. This procedure works best for slight flaws. For bigger imperfections, a dental veneer is likely a better choice. The procedure works best on front teeth.

Don’t Forget About Your Gums

We can even give you gorgeous gums! We can use a laser to remove the excess tissue that gives you a “gummy” smile, giving you a more attractive balance between teeth and gums. Or if receding gums are your problem, Dr. Perkins can perform a gum graft, removing a small amount of tissue from your mouth and attaching it to your gums.
