Benefits of Dental Implants: Look, Feel, And Function Like Your Teeth

Compared to dentures or other tooth replacement options, dental implants look, feel, and function more like your natural teeth. Among their benefits:

  • We embed the implant in your jaw, so it won’t go anywhere. It can’t loosen or slip around in your mouth, and it provides a stable foundation for your restoration.
  • Your surrounding teeth remain intact. Unlike with a traditional dental bridge, we won’t need to alter your adjacent teeth for a dental implant.
  • Your teeth care routine won’t change. For implants with dental crowns and dental bridges, you will brush and floss, just like before.
  • A dental implant stimulates your jawbone a lot like your natural tooth. This helps reduce the bone loss that can happen with a dental bridge or dentures.

If there is any possibility of discomfort with the dental implant process, we’ll numb your mouth first. And we offer dental sedation if you need it!

What Are Dental Implants, Exactly?

A dental implant is a small titanium post in your jawbone that acts as an artificial “root” for a dental crown or other restorative dentistry treatment. Dental implants can replace a single missing tooth, multiple teeth, or even all of your teeth.

There are three parts:

  • The implant, or metal post
  • An abutment, which connects the dental implant to your dental restoration
  • The restoration that sits atop the abutment, including dentures we can attach with balls or a bar

Dr. Jennifer Perkins obtained her DDS from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis.
